National prepayment meter crime conference

Energy UK is hosting a national conference on prepayment meter fraud on 16 May in partnership with Serious Organised Crime Agency, Crimestoppers and West Midlands Police.

We know that criminal gangs have been operating across the UK, going door-to-door offering customers illegal top-ups. To date over 120,000 customers have been affected.

A number of arrests have taken place, but more needs to be done to stamp out this fraud. Customers have already lost over £7million to criminals and the cost to energy companies is expected to be over £30million.
